Find me on:

critical thinking in mathEducation Week's collaboration with the Center for Teaching Quality, appropriately named the CTQ Collaboratory, has been producing some really great blog posts recently. We wanted to share 4th grade educator Lana Gundy's recent post about "boosting creative thinking in math class," because it really caught our eye.

In the post, Lana tells of her purposed effort to increase the amount of creative thinking done in her 4th grade enrichment classes to help prepare students for the Common Core Mathematical Practice Standards (which have a heavy focus on critical thinking). To do so, she asked her students "When does 1 + 1 = 24?"

Pretty wild, right? So when does 1 + 1 = 24? Read Lana's blog post (linked below) to hear what she learned from the student responses and what her takeaway has been after inspiring her students to use their thinking caps a little more when it comes to math class.
