After seeing years and years of the same old fill-in-the-bubble tests, I was literally wowed when I first reviewed the sample PARCC and Smarter Balanced Common Core Assessments. These digital assessments challenge students to increase their higher order thinking skills in ways we educators have never seen before!
The Common Core Digital Assessments Provide Great Teaching Tools
Not only are the assessments a great tool for teachers to gain knowledge about what their students know and dont know (to help form and personalize instruction), but these assessments also actually get students problem solving and thinking about what they are learning.
For todays digital native student, the old adage, Out with the old and in with the new, truly makes sense. Asking questions in a digital format fits the digital native's learning style. Additionally, requiring students to solve problems in a variety of methods increases their critical thinking ability and makes them better prepared to live and work in an ever-changing world.
While the variety of question types in digital format challenge the student to solve problems in numerous ways, the explanation questions show the students deeper understanding as they are allowed to explain how they derived their problem solution.
Mirroring the PARCC and Smarter Balanced Common Core Assessments
Our Wowzers team is thrilled with the possibilities presented by these digital assessments. In fact, we have made great efforts to ensure our digital math interactions mirror and model the PARCC and Smarter Balanced CCSS Assessments.
Wowzers helps students and educators prepare for and master the CCSS by using our Common Core-based content and assessments. Educators will be surprised and pleased that these new assessments not only evaluate what the student knows and doesn't know, but also that these assessments foster learning and critical thinking development.
Via daily practice with the Wowzers digital math assessments, students will not only be better prepared to take the Common Core assessment, but they will also develop the critical thinking skills needed to solve real life problems. But don't just take my word for it. Check our assessments out in the video below.
So, go figure, a test as a teaching tool! For once, I love it!
